The 40th Biennial Clergy-Laity Congress of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America was inaugurated today with the Orthros service and Hierarchical Divine Liturgy held in Atlanta’s Greek Orthodox Cathedral of the Annunciation. His Eminence Archbishop Demetrios of America presided over the Divine Liturgy concelebrating with the Metropolitans of the Holy Eparchial Synod of the Archdiocese. Taking part in the Liturgy were His Eminence Metropolitan Iakovos of Chicago, His Eminence Metropolitan Methodios of Boston, His Eminence Metropolitan Isaiah of Denver, His Eminence Metropolitan Alexios of Atlanta, His Eminence Metropolitan Nicholas of Detroit, His Eminence Metropolitan Gerasimos of San Francisco, and His Eminence Metropolitan Evangelos of New Jersey.

It was highlighted by the Keynote Address of His Eminence Archbishop Demetrios of America to the more than one thousand participants during a combined opening session of Clergy-Laity Congress and National Philoptochos delegates.

The 40th Biennial Clergy-Laity Congress of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America, will convene in Atlanta, Ga. July 4-8, 2010 and it will focus on the theme of this Congress “Come and See,” which was set by His Eminence Archbishop Demetrios of America as a follow up to “Gather My People to my Home” theme of the last Congress.
